- History of Wi-Fi
First, Wi-Fi was introduced to the users in 1997. In the beginning Wi-Fi facilitated a wireless connection between devices to transfer data with a speed of 2Mb per second. Wi-Fi was given for daily-routine work in 1999. Wi-Fi was modified over time and Wi-Fi 6 is the newest modification. With the development of technology, the number of devices that use Wi-Fi increased during the whole last decade. One of the major issues came up with this increment is the speed of Wi-Fi was decreased. This new Wi-Fi technology is a solution given for that. Main objective of this technology is to speed up the data transfer process in order to improve the data efficiency.
- How is the speed of new Wi-Fi Technology?
Simply, the speed of Wi-Fi 5, 3.5 Gbps has been increased up to 9.6 Gbps in Wi-Fi 6.
As we all know, even though they mention this speed theoretically, it is difficult to gain it practically. Even if it is possible to gain, it is doubtful whether we can get the same speed in day today activities. According to internet, 72Mbps speed is enough for a normal downloading process. But, the above mentioned speed is useful for this new technology. Although the full speed is not needed for a single device, it is very useful to give a potential speed when several devices are connected together.
- Technology in Wi-Fi 6
Wi-Fi 6 consists of 2 technologies to gain its speed. They are MU-MIMO and OFDMA.
MU-MIMO represents “multi- user, multi- input, and multiple output”. This technology is already utilized in routers and other devices. But Wi- Fi 6 has improved it. This technology has facilitated to connect several devices to a router at once. At present four devices can be connected to a router, but Wi-Fi 6 has increased it up to 8. Next technology is OFDMA
(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access). In this technology, single transmission provides data for several devices.
- Security measures
The biggest modification in Wi-Fi was done in last year by using the newest WPA 3 protocol, WPA 3 gives a minimum level of opportunity for hackers. Although the network is hacked, the hacker cannot obtain useful information. WPA 3 is used in the current devices also, but it is not compulsory. For Wi-Fi 6 devices, it is mandatory to get it certified the presence of WPA 3 by Wi-Fi Alliance.
- How to get the new Wi-Fi 6 service?
Users must purchase modified devices to enjoy Wi-Fi 6. And also they must buy a Wi-Fi 6 router. These routers and other devices are already has been released to the market. Examples for such routers are Deco Mesh, AX1500 Mesh and Archer Ax90.
